Free Friday Lunchtime Recital

  • St Mary's Church Upper Street London, England, N1 United Kingdom (map)

Join us on Friday 21 November for a ‘Potpourri’ Concert.

A Potpourri refers either to a mixture of fragrant plant materials or a musical form that combines melodies from different songs or musical pieces.

This concert, a collection of beautiful music from different places played by Hanna Csermely on the piano and Thomas Siemens on the guitar, can itself be considered to be a musical Potpourri, an invitation to listen to a wide range of music that touches the heart.

Thomas and Hanna’s concert will include music by contemporary composer, Martin Schley. You can read more about Martin here:

Martin Schley (born 1997) has played the guitar since he was seven years old. He began his studies at the Robert-Schumann-Conservatory (Zwickau/Saxony) with Martina Schlagmann and Barbara Löffler. During his time in Zwickau he participated successfully in various national and international competitions, both as a soloist and in various chamber music ensembles. In 2015 he started his studies with Elise Neumann at the Lübeck university of music. He completed his Bachelor ́s degree in the summer of 2019. Together with his chamber music partner Jesus Carrillo (flute), he received a ‘Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now’ scholarship.

His compositions are mainly for guitar and chamber musicians, in addition to transcriptions for guitar duet of Bach and Scriabin. He has also received a commission from the Brahms festival at the Lübeck university of music. His compositions and transcriptions are published by Bergmann Edition. His orchestral work “Veni creator spiritus” was premiered by the Federal Youth plucked string orchestra of Germany in 2023.
