St Mary's Weekly Eco Tip: Reducing food waste
Cutting down on food waste is a wonderful way to help the UK become more self-sufficient, and it all starts with trusting our senses a little more. The recent "Look, Smell, Taste, Don’t Waste" campaign is a great reminder that expiration dates can sometimes be overly cautious; in fact, salads often stay fresh for days longer than the label says, yogurts may last for extra weeks, and pantry staples like ketchup and jam can survive for months. When you see a "Best Before" date, simply give the food a quick look, sniff, and taste to decide whether to keep it. Just remember to treat "Use By" dates with a bit more caution, as going past those can unfortunately risk food poisoning.
