St Mary's Weekly Eco Tip: Is your car really necessary?

In summer it is tempting to hop in one’s car and rush into the countryside, or to take it on an overseas holiday. But is it enjoyable any longer with so much traffic on the roads? You might stop and ask whether you would actually miss driving. The private car has no future in cities, even if electric. The near-future city is one with no cars and good (we hope) public transport. Get used to not driving, and this might be the time to sell off your car, before it becomes a stranded asset.
