St Mary's Weekly Eco Tip: Global impact of climate change

Christian Aid Week is a good time to think about how to help those already affected by climate change and environmental damage. Christian Aid ( www.christianaid.org.uk ) itself has a wide variety of programmes such as building earth dams for a yearlong source of clean water, improving subsistence farmers’ basic business skills, and developing resilience in drought-prone areas. In many parts of the world reforestation is urgently needed, which is what TreeAid does ( www.treeaid.org ). More education is needed everywhere: ActionAid supports both schools and individual children ( www.actionaid.org ). Tearfund set up toilet twinning so that whole villages learn about hygiene as well as how to build latrines – health standards improve and more children survive ( www.toilettwinning.org ).
