St Mary's Weekly Eco Tip: Christmas Recycling
The mantra “Reduce, reuse, recycle” fits beautifully with Christmas traditions. Many festive favourites are perfect for using again and again. Well-made decorations for the tree, the cake, or the front door can bring joy for decades. Try opening presents gently so you can reuse the wrapping paper next year. After Twelfth Night, keep the prettiest card fronts, stick them onto blank cards and you’ve got lovely homemade ones (just be sure not to send them back to the original sender!).
Make the most of your festive feast, too. Use every bit of the bird: leftover meat is great for sandwiches or fricassees, and the bones make a delicious stock for soups and risottos. Even extra Brussels sprouts can be turned into tasty bubble-and-squeak.
And best of all, the goodwill we share at Christmas can be “recycled” all year long through simple acts of care for our community.
