Creative Lent Project: ‘Were not our hearts burning within us’

As we enter the discipline of lent, we want to invite the St Mary’s community to respond creatively and prayerfully to a theme: “hearts burning within us”

We hope something in this theme or in the Bible passage will inspire you to make some art – in any form. Whatever captures your imagination, whatever helps you to pray and go deeper into the Lenten season.

Our theme words are taken from the passage in Luke about the disciples who are walking the Emmaus Road when they meet the risen Jesus (Luke 24:13-35)

You may wish just to focus on the theme words, “hearts burning within us” or the Bible verse Luke 24:32: “They said to each other, ‘Were not our hearts burning within us while he was talking to us on the road, while he was opening the scriptures to us”

You may wish to think more about the passage in its entirety: Luke 24:13-35

Your response can be in any medium — poetry, music, sculpture, painting, photography, drawing, textiles, collage, beading — anything you can imagine!

This project is open to all ages and abilities, offering a shared opportunity to deepen our Lenten journey through artistic reflection.

All submissions should be suitable for general viewing by all ages.

We will enjoy one another’s work at a special exhibition on Palm Sunday, 29 March, at St Mary’s from 3-5pm.
