Our tenth Free Friday Lunchtime Recital of 2026 will take place on Friday 16 October.
Join Sophie Davis (Mezzo Soprano) and Anna Reiley (Pianist) for a classical performance.
Out of Silence traces the arc of the First World War through British art song and spoken verse. Drawing on works by Ivor Gurney, George Butterworth, and Ralph Vaughan Williams, the recital moves in three sections: The World Before, Conflict, and What Came After, each opened by a spoken poem from a female war poet. Eleanor Farjeon, May Wedderburn Cannan, and Vera Brittain bring their voices into the room alongside the music, as equal witnesses to the same years and the same loss.
