St Mary's Weekly Eco Tip: Recycling Aluminium

An early example of recycling in the UK occurred during the Second World War, when households across the country donated their much valued aluminium cooking pans to support aircraft production. Recycling aluminium remains just as important today, producing aluminium from its raw ore, bauxite, requires around twenty times more energy than recovering it through household recycling. This Christmas, please ensure that all aluminium items including drink cans, cleaned kitchen foil, milk bottle tops, and chocolate wrappers are placed in the appropriate recycling collection.
