Simon writes,

An announcement of my appointment to the Parish of St Mary with St Peter, in the Suffolk town of Bury St Edmunds has been made by the Bishop of St Edmundsbury and Ipswich. I shall be leaving St Mary Islington in the first weeks of 2019, deeply thankful for over eight years of ministry in this very special parish.

Jo and I are excited about the move to Suffolk, to join large and active Christian communities in their work and witness in a growing town. During the interview process we met many generous and welcoming people and we are looking forward to all our new beginnings.

Islington will always be memorable for many positive reasons. We shall miss its people above everything else. God has been very good to us as a church, bringing growth in all kinds of ways. I am certain that in the period of vacancy with the leadership of churchwardens, the continuing ministry of our curate, Caroline Shuttleworth, the contributions of many others and the support of the wider church, St Mary’s will flourish.

I know that this announcement will come as a surprise to many in Islington but it is very healthy for a parish’s leadership to be renewed. A new vicar will see new possibilities and he or she will bring new gifts and insight. My successor will be blessed to serve a parish which has enormous opportunity for loving God wholeheartedly and for loving our neighbours as ourselves.

There will be further opportunities for me to say more about my gratitude and my hope. Meanwhile, in my prayers to our ever-faithful God, I rejoice in everything past that has been good, everything present that is in accordance with his will and everything in the future that shall be done in faith.
