Harvest Thanksgiving 11 October 2015

At our Harvest Thanksgiving service we will be giving thanks for all that God has given us and taking the opportunity to give something back. We would be very grateful for donations of food.
In the UK 13 million people live below the poverty line. Every day, people all over the country go hungry for reasons ranging from redundancy to receiving an unexpected bill whilst on a low income.

The food brought to church will be donated to the Islington Foodbank, and used for emergency food parcels.

We continue with our preaching series entitled the “The earth is the Lord’s.” with a focus on food justice.”  In Isaiah 58 the prophet challenges those who say they are religious to prove it, not by their acts of devotion in formal worship but by compassion for those in need.

Harvest Thanksgiving reminds us of our dependence on God, and that is why we want to share what we have with others who are less fortunate. Harvest is a time not to beat ourselves with guilt or to wallow in complacency but to rejoice in God’s gifts to be happy, to remember others, and to take appropriate action.
