Rachel Treweek, Bishop of Gloucester

We're delighted that Rachel Treweek has been announced as the first woman diocesan bishop in the Church of England.

Rachel has been a great support and help for us at St Mary's. In her role as Archdeacon of Hackney, she has given senior leadership to the Diocese of London's resourcing of Ambassadors for Christ. Much of an archdeacon's role takes place behind the scenes, ordering the life of the parishes and the diocese not just for compliance but for mission.

Rachel began her ordained ministry in Islington, serving her title as curate in the Parish of St George and All Saints, Tufnell Park. She will continue in her London role until June and her consecration will take place in July.

We're thrilled that the Church of England has gained a bishop of such vision, generosity and devotion to the gospel.
