Gloria Naylor ordained at St Paul's Cathedral

The Rt Revd and Rt Hon Richard Chartres, Bishop of London, ordained thirty deacons at St Paul's last Saturday. The Revd Gloria Naylor has been licensed to serve in the parish of St Mary Islington as Assistant Curate.

Gloria comes to St Marys' with a wealth of experience in education. Many former colleagues from Highbury Grove School were among the thousands in the cathedral. Bishop Richard spoke of the energy and hope that those newly ordained bring and the confidence, compassion and creativity of the London Diocese Capital Vision 2020.

We're delighted to welcome Gloria to St Mary's, where she follows in the footsteps of former archbishop Lord Carey, Bishop of Liverpool David Sheppard and archbishop Donald Coggan, who all served here as curates.

A deacon in the church has a special responsibility for preaching the gospel, bringing encouragement and pastoral care. Gloria's training in the full range of parish ministry will be supervised by Revd Simon Harvey and next year she will be ordained a second time, as priest. We look forward to three years of ministry from Gloria, at which time she will leave us to take up a parish appointment elsewhere.
