The Ven. Rachel Treweek, who recently took up the appointment of Archdeacon of Hackney, will be joining us on 4 December 2011, to celebrate the project.
St Mary's has already notched up its first tonne of saved CO2 emissions and with autumn sunshine falling on the south elevation of the roof, we're exporting surplus electricity every day. At peak output, we generate enough clean energy to light 2,000 domestic light bulbs.
In addition to investing our own money, funding for the scheme came through generous grants from Islington's Climate Change Fund, Richard Cloudesley's Charity and BIG Lottery Fund (under the Community Sustainable Energy Project, administered by the Building Research Establishment).
St Mary's Church is a member of the Islington Climate Change Partnership.
