Five days of fun, FREE food and activities for the whole community
Tuesday 31 May to Sunday 5 June 2011
At St Mary’s Church in Upper Street, we are delighted to be hosting this neighbourhood festival. ‘Soul in the City’ has something for everyone - but especially for young people, families and local school children (who will be on half term that week), local residents, local businesses and users of our Crypt and Neighbourhood Centre.
The aim of the festival is to have fun and to meet and make friends with our neighbours. As a church, this is what we are really about. Jesus said, ‘Love each other’ and this is what we want to do.
Planned activities include a performance of the ‘Barber of Seville’ by the King’s Head Little Opera Company; a one man dramatisation of St Matthew’s Gospel; an Islington’s Got Talent Show; a Hip Hop and Rap night; and a Family fun day on Saturday 4 June including stalls, games, children’s activities and a penalty shoot-out session arranged by Arsenal FC. There will be free afternoon teas and music in the gardens from Wednesday to Saturday. The Young Players of the Almeida Theatre are working with young people to make ‘A Play in a Day’. We shall also be working with and supporting local community work with gardening and bike surgeries.
All activities will take place in St Mary’s Church and gardens. The closing event will be a celebration service at St Mary’s Church on Sunday 5 June at 11.00am.
