Do you have a few hours spare each week to help out as a volunteer in our busy church office? This includes reception duties and practical administration.
A church office volunteer receptionist supports the work of the church. In being the first point of contact for people calling at the office or calling by phone, you’re representing St Mary’s to the wider world. A good encounter with this Christian community begins as people are met with patience and respect.
Our office is a busy place and church office volunteers make a very valuable contribution. You will support the clergy, administrative assistant and other church staff. You will answer the phone, meet visitors at the door, do a range of practical tasks and lock the church at the end of the ‘open church’ day. Your role is really important.
Who do I work with?
The people who regularly work in our office are: our Vicar, Curate, Children’s and Youth Minister, Resource Manager and Admin Assistant. The team is busy but focussed and needs the support of the church office volunteers to be able to carry out their roles efficiently whilst always being able to make time for parish needs.
Appointment and personal qualities
A church office volunteer is appointed by the vicar and the administrative assistant, after interview. They would normally be full communicant members of St Mary’s and regular in worship. They would need to be available for shifts of 2-3 hours in the afternoons, on 2-5 days each week. They would need basic computer skills (email etc.) It is important that the person serving in this role has good people skills, a friendly and approachable manner, is honest and trustworthy and can work with limited supervision.
