SMS - Our Youth Group
For young people in secondary school we have a youth group called SMS (St Mary's Soul). SMS meets every Sunday evening between 5.30pm and 7.30pm during term time. We meet in the church crypt (basement) and have hour and a half to play table tennis, team games, Nintendo Wii U and we cook food together once a month. We spend the last 30 mins talking and thinking about life, faith and what it means to follow Jesus as a young person. It’s also completely free!
To further enrich the experience for a young person at St Mary’s we go on two trips per year. One long weekend during Easter we go to an outward bound centre called Carroty Wood, near Tunbridge Wells. Here we have exclusive use of a small area of a huge forest. We sleep in proper beds and have campfires, go swimming and play lots of games. During the Summer we join over 90 young people from across the UK and Europe at a place called Lee Abbey. We spend a week camping in tents and have meetings, play games, socialise and enjoy the beautiful north Devon coast.

We are thrilled to have been awarded the Diocese of London's Children's Charter, making children fully part of St Mary's through welcome, worship, mission and nurture. We take safeguarding seriously. All our leaders and helpers are DBS checked and take great care to ensure the children have fun in a safe environment.
