You are the body of Christ

"The eye cannot say to the hand, 'I have no need of you.'"

Simon Harvey writes,

Last Sunday I preached the longest sermon I can remember in my five years at St Mary's. The Bible passage was 1 Corinthians 12 and because there's so much to learn from it, I felt it was important to try to work through the whole chapter.

Paul's letter to the Corinthian Christians affirmed that God has blessed them with spiritual gifts. But he wanted to show how those gifts worked together for the common good.

I was struck by the ways that we can readily connect Paul's encouragements with the evidence that we saw in our Soul in the City festival, in which over seventy members of our church community worked together for the common good.

The passage speaks of the Holy Spirit's work of bringing unity among astonishing diversity and again, I find evidence for this in the kind of church we are becoming.

For the next 90 days, you can hear the sermon here.
