We're delighted that Alexandra Lilley will join us as Assistant Minister from 18 September 2011. Alexandra writes,
"Hello! I'm Alexandra and I am very excited to be starting a training placement at St Mary's in September.
I was thrilled to be accepted to train for ordained ministry in the Church of England this year and will begin a course at St Mellitus this autumn. Until then, I'll continue my job as a project manager for the Evangelical Alliance, helping to resource churches.
I studied English at Oxford University and enjoy reading literature - book group is one of the highlights of my month. I also enjoy listening to a wide range of music - I avidly followed the recent Glastonbury coverage. I'm into films, theatre and visiting galleries. I love cooking and having friends over for meals. I'm involved in a small charity for AIDS orphans in South Africa, where I have previously volunteered.
Michael, my husband, is half-Polish, a civil servant, a drummer and amateur photographer. We've lived in Islington for almost ten years and currently share our house in Kings Cross with a friend. On our estate, we're involved in an 'open house' community meal once a week.
We've been part of All Saints Islington for these ten years and I've been churchwarden for seven of them, as well as involved at various times in: children's work, youth work, hosting a home group, helping with the night shelter and local care home, and preaching. During our recent interregnum I worked part-time as a pastoral worker and led a weekly Bible study group for people who are homeless and marginalised.
I'm passionate about the love, grace, acceptance and forgiveness that is found in Jesus Christ and offered to all people everywhere. I really enjoy the challenge of finding creative and appropriate ways to share this good news with others - and in community, to discover life lived to the full.
I'm really looking forward to meeting all the lovely people of St Mary's in the autumn.
