Become a member of St Mary's Church

You don't need to be a signed-up member to worship with us. But when the time is right and you'd like to take the next step, we'd love you to join St Mary's Church.

The church electoral roll is the only official register of church members in the Church of England. The electoral roll is updated every year and in 2019, it will be revised completely.

We invite you to join the Electoral Roll if you are baptised and can confirm one of the three statements below.
  1. I am baptised and aged 16 or over. I am a member of the Church of England (or of a Church in communion with the Church of England) and I reside in the parish. (Check www.achurchnearyou.com to search for your address, or look at our parish map).
  2. I am baptised and aged 16 or over. I am a member of the Church of England (or of a Church in communion with the Church of England) and, though I do not reside in the parish, I have habitually attended public worship at St Mary's during a period of six months prior to enrolment.
  3. I am baptised and aged 16 or over. I am a member in good standing of a Church (not in communion with the Church of England) which subscribes to the doctrine of the Holy Trinity and also declare myself to be a member of the Church of England, and I have habitually attended public worship at St Mary's during a period of six months prior to enrolment.
Being part of a church isn't just about having your name on a list. So we also hope that, as a member of St Mary's, you will:
  • Seek to follow Jesus Christ in all things and live the Christian life of loving God and other people.
  • Continue to develop your personal relationship with God through regular prayer and study of the Bible.
  • Continue to think about your faith and how it relates to your home life, daytime occupation, leisure time and the world in which you live.
  • Come to church often, worshipping with other members of our church community.
  • Take part in the life and work of the church.  This will include praying for the church and its members; caring for the needy by offering practical help; giving regular financial support; and using the spiritual gifts and talents God has given you to benefit others in their Christian life and growth, giving money to support the church’s work.
  • Pray for and support the authority of those who lead and serve our church.
  • Seek to share your faith with others.
  • Support the work of God's church world-wide and locally.
